If Michelangelo was thinking with his D, he’d likely have sculpted Italian women with bodies like that of the Roman Goddess Mirella D’Angelo. Mirella, which supposedly comes from the Italian word for “admire” has unfortunately (for Americans) spent her entire career in European cinema, thus hampering any amount of public exposure here in the States. She debuted in her native Italy in the third Commissioner Betti “”poliziotteschi”, A Special Cop In Action (1976), and hasn’t looked back ever since. But by far her best known work came just two years later in the famed Tinto Brass/Bob Guccione skinfest Caligula (1979). Mirella plays Julia Livilla, Caligula’s youngest sister, and, like nearly everyone in the Malcolm McDowell vehicle based off a Gore Vidal screenplay that was hugely rewritten once the movie became financed by Penthouse, appears naked. Mirellas Roman rack is good enough you should call-a-friend-to-see-um, especially when she and McDowell keep it in the family decades before Game of Thrones made it cool. If one Mirella wasn’t enough for you, just a few years later we got a little Mirella on Mirella action. No, she wasn’t indulging in some self loving, she was getting sexy with Mirella Banti, who showed her boobs while D’Angelo didn’t, in the horror drama Tenebrae (1982). We were glad to see her in Hercules (1983), but rather disappointed, as the randy gents we are, not to see her have any scenes to really make us hard in Hard Men (1996). Mirella took a huge break from acting between 1996 and 2017, when she returned to play a role on Holy City before heading back to the big screen in I Piccoli Maghi Di Oz (2018). We’ll always have her role in the filthiest take on the Roman Empire ever put on screen to get our phallus stiff as a legion phalanx. The statuesque body of this ravishing Roman needs to be seen to be believed. Mirella makes us hella horny!
